Working from Home

My name is Holly, work-at-home-woman, accidental bird-watcher.

Working from home is great, but I definitely have mixed feelings about being so far from the office (7 hours).  The things I don't miss? The commute to and from work. Having a cubicle out in the open, where everyone looks over my shoulder. The mini-fridge 14 of us try to cram food into. Political debates at lunchtime. The constant peer pressure to go out to lunch or bring back a heart attack in a bag. The stress of dealing with a questionable co-worker in person. My computer at work, which I hoped would explode. The fluorescent spaceship above my desk.

Things I do miss: social interaction. Most of my co-workers, who were hilarious and random. Miniature Robo-Panda, who one co-worker was freaked out by, and we all found a place to hide every week. The friendships I made that are now long distance. Being able to show things to my supervisor/friend instead of talking through them over the phone. Forcing the guys in our office to watch HGTV when the girls got to lunch first. Caller ID! Cake for birthdays. Bagel Friday, which turned into once-a-month Bagel Friday because of the current economic situation (LOL).

New Adventures: I sometimes feel like I'm in a disney movie. You wouldn't believe the amount of small creatures you will see if you just sit at the window during the day! It's like they are all playing, waiting for me to sing to them so they can come help me put on an evening gown. There are some really beautiful birds that I've never seen before, and the chipmunks can be hilarious (I know, I sound ridiculous). Phoenix, Moose, and Coby all want out in the worst way, but probably not to play. I can wear whatever I want to work. My dress code was casual in VA, but this past week when I was really sick, I was so thankful to don sweatpants. Most days though, I like to get ready like normal or else I feel really out of whack. Until Mike finds a job, I get to see him and talk to him whenever I want, which I really enjoy. Today, he made me an awesome lunch.

I'm sure there will be more new adventures once we have our own place, and I know someday I will either want a new job, or have kids and hang with them.

For now, I will work at my spot by the window, next to Moose, and watch the birds.

I was thinking of working from home as a cyber teacher. I would probably wear sweatpants everyday! However, I'm concerned I would stop showering altogether....Plus, I'm so freakin' social...Glad you have Mike and Moose for company..
